Type Locality and Naming
The Lanlong Formation was named by Zhaobiequan (1994) in Lamlong of Baishui, Hengyang City of Hunan Province. The type locality is the Lamlong section in Hengyang (l12º35'，27°05').
Synonyms: The Petroleum Team of Hunan (1978) referred it to a part of the Shenhuangshan Fm. In different literature, it was called as Mayutang Fm, Wenmingsi Fm, Qijiahe Fm and Dongxiachang Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
The formation consists of purple red thick-bedded conglomerates, sandy conglomerates, and greywacke beds. Its thickness is varies from 200 m to 800 m.

Lower contact
The formation conformably overlies the Dongjing Fm.
Upper contact
Regional extent
It distributed in the Hengyang, Changping, and Yuanma, Changtao basins.
